THE KIND OF PEOPLE WE WORSHIP

The people of India, has always had their fascination for gods. It is a country where there are numerous figures, idols, ideas and philosophies being worshipped in one way or other.  There is a theory that, some of the deities whom we worship today were once humans, who did great things to be recognized as gods. This was the fundamental concept behind the popular novel of ' The Shiva's Trilogy' by Amish Tripathi which has huge popularity in India. Assuming the hypothesis to be true, let us find out if there are any common traits in these men, whom the people of this country admired.

One of the most popular deities of India is Lord Ram. He is known for his courage, ideal conduct and devotion to duty. The prince of Ayodya is an ideal son, ideal husband and an archetype for righteousness. Then there is Lord Shiva, the tribal god with a muscular body, who has both benevolence as well as fearsome forms. He is known for his courage, calmness and his tandava style of dance.

In Modern India, there is one man whose deeds are so great that, people from all classes of life, tend to call him god. His name is Sachin Tendulkar. He has achieved this cult status, by being a great warrior for his country in the cricket field over the years. They believe that he has some super-natural powers (natural talent), by which he will deliver upon their unfulfilling expectations and bring joy. They believed him, they worshipped him and he has blessed them, atleast 100 times.

Off late, going by his popularity among his fans, we could observe that there is another warrior, acquiring cult status. His name is Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Hailing from a tribal state, he was fearless with his long hair and unorthodox shots. His calm composure during tough times earned him the name 'captain cool' and his known for taking decisions instinctively.

While, Sachin resembles Ram, Dhoni seems similar to Shiva. There are critics who may point out the negative characteristics in them. However, to err is human and these chosen ones made fewer mistakes than their compatriots. These great men through their skill, valor and devotion to their duty have earned the respect of millions of people. People have admired their determination, endurance, humility and the way they conduct themselves.1000 years later, people of this country might well be worshipping these cricketers as deities.
